M.E. Support Competition
Every year, M.E. Support holds a competition to send someone flowers for International May 12th Awareness Day. M.E. Support received over one hundred nominations this year, and I was deeply moved by each of the heartfelt stories.
A number of people wanted to thank Clare Norton for her commitment to raising M.E. awareness. Her 21-year-old daughter Merryn Crofts, who was severely affected by M.E., passed away on the 23rd of May 2017. Clare has courageously spoken out and shared their story in multiple publications, including this article with Manchester Evening News, which also facilitated a BBC Newsbeat documentary called M.E. And Me. One of her nominators, Pippa Stacey, concluded, “Clare's work is facilitating an increased awareness of the devastation of Severe M.E., and it would be lovely to send her flowers as just a small token of the M.E. community's appreciation!”
A bouquet of seasonal flowers was delivered to Clare in Norden, Rochdale, thanking her for raising awareness in Merryn’s memory. The hand-tied bouquet was made to order by Christine at the Garden of Eden, a beautiful florist shop in the heart of Norden village.
Do you know someone who deserves a bunch of flowers? To mark International May 12th Awareness Day 2019, M.E. Support will be sending a fresh bouquet of flowers to someone who truly deserves it. This could be an M.E. sufferer, carer, family member or supportive friend. You might even like to acknowledge a charity or someone in the medical profession. There are no restrictions - the choice is entirely yours!
To make your nomination, please complete the form below, explaining who you think should receive these beautiful flowers and why. You can only make one nomination and the recipient must live at a UK address. This competition will run from 09:00 BST on Monday, 1 April 2019 to 21:00 BST on Tuesday, 30 April 2019.
I will pick one person on Wednesday, 1 May 2019; you will be notified by e-mail and asked for the recipient’s address. A mixed seasonal spray will be delivered by a reputable flower service on Sunday, 12 May 2019. Please be advised that the actual bouquet may differ slightly from the one shown above. The winner and their nominator must consent to the use of their names and photograph(s) on M.E. Support.
